Application of 6242Y Cable to BS 6004 Standard

The 6242Y cable to BS 6004 standard is primarily constructed with solid copper conductors, PVC insulation and a PVC outer sheath. It is commonly referred to as a 6242Y flat cable.

This cable is suitable for use in environments where the emission of smoke and toxic gases may pose a potential threat to life, and is widely used for socket outlets, lighting circuits and similar electrical equipment. It is suitable for both dry and damp conditions, and is particularly suitable for installation in cable trunking and conduits.

Enquiry and Negotiation

UK buyers have a strong preference for products made in China, and as a result many Chinese companies frequently receive enquiries from UK customers. One morning in late July 2021, our sales manager received a phone call enquiring about flat cables. As Jianzhenda manufactures SAA flat cables, we were very pleased and initially thought the deal could be concluded quickly.

However, after several discussions, we learned that the customer was not looking for SAA flat cable, but for 6242Y cable, which also has a flat appearance. After multiple rounds of negotiation, the customer felt that our quotation was too high. Despite this, flat cables from Jianzhenda are known for fast delivery and reliable quality.

After several days of consideration, the customer decided to purchase a 20-metre sample for evaluation and sent it to their end customer for confirmation. About two weeks later, towards the end of October, the customer requested that the cable must comply with BS 6004 and that certification documents be provided. As the customer repeatedly emphasised BS 6004 compliance, we determined that they were a trader with strong interest in our flat cable products, exporting to the UK — which later proved to be correct.

Order Confirmation

The order quantity discussed was significant, with a total value of over RMB 800,000, making it a very attractive opportunity. However, at that time, our BS 6004 certification had not yet been completed, which caused the customer considerable frustration.

Fortunately, through patient and effective communication by our sales manager, the customer agreed to purchase a sample cable and submit it to a BS 6004 testing authority at their own cost. Thankfully, the product fully met the BS 6004 requirements and official test reports and certification were issued.

The customer then requested a price reduction. As the goods were to be exported to the UK, we offered an FOB quotation, which significantly reduced the customer’s overall costs. The customer accepted the offer promptly, and the contract was prepared and returned to us signed and stamped the following day.

The contract specified a production period of two and a half months. In accordance with the agreement, the customer paid a 30% deposit, and we immediately arranged the procurement of raw materials and commenced production.

Order Confirmation

After more than two months of intensive production, the order was nearing completion. The factory staff felt a strong sense of achievement. We arranged for several containers to be collected, and our team completed loading efficiently.

We then contacted the customer to request the balance payment. The customer initially doubted that production had been completed so quickly, so our sales manager sent photos and a short video of the loaded containers as proof. The customer explained that they had only received a 30% deposit from their UK client and needed to wait for the remaining payment.

After more than ten days of waiting, the customer finally completed the balance payment. We then arranged for three container trucks to transport the finished cables to Shenzhen Port for shipment.

The customer later explained that their UK client was the owner of a large renovation company and had been extremely busy with year-end events and business gatherings, which caused the delay in payment.

Long-term Cooperation

Once the shipment was completed, we were very pleased. Although the balance payment had been delayed, we had successfully cooperated with a major client. About one month after shipment, the customer contacted us again. Initially, we assumed they were enquiring about other cable products, but instead they shared positive feedback from their UK customer.

The UK client expressed strong satisfaction with the 6242Y cable, proposed establishing a long-term supply partnership, and sent a contract for signing. They also mentioned plans to visit China for travel and to personally visit Jianzhenda Cable.

Our 6242Y cable has since gained high recognition among users in the UK market.
